For the girls!

This post is all for the girls. As mentioned in an earlier post myself and 11 other designers are involved in the Quilt Aid 2009. You can click on the button at the top right hand side of my blog for further details but I just wanted to share my block called "Berry Bluebirds" with you and to let you know that it is available through Laura from "In Stitches of Williamstown". You can go to Laura's site and check out her finished quilt design of all the blocks.

Bluebid & Berries quilt aid 2009 block

I wanted to keep my block very simple as I wasn't sure what the other girls were doing with their blocks and hoped that it didn't turn out too busy. Well that it ain't. All the blocks look really good together and the quilts all look amazing. The fabric was donated by XLN so we all worked with the same fabric. "Bluebird of Hope" is the name of the quilt.

Now for the next girly installment. As mentioned in my last post, I have been busy stitching for Homespun magazine a secret project. I have been given the go ahead  straight from the horse's mouth that I can share some info on what is happening.

Homespun Magazine is currently running a charity BOM through their magazine called "Breast of Friends" to help in the fight to find a cure for Breast Cancer. It runs for 9 months and the blocks that have been released so far are amazing. It runs until September. This is something very worthwhile being a part of.

And to help out as much as they can, Homespun is going to be running another one in 2010 for Ovarian Cancer. OVCA.These are both something that us gals should be a part of. So lets do our bit 8-)

I am not sure of all the designers involved in this one but I know that there is myself, Janelle Wind and Gail Pan. I know that Janelle will be showing a sneeky peeky or two on her blog so check that out. The theme and title for this gorgeous quilt is called "Life is a Celebration". The fabrics have been donated once again and they are simply irresistable. The range is called "French Hat Boxes" by Tanya Whelan so keep an eye out for when they are released or make some enquiries with your local patchwork shop. A must have for the fabric stash. It kicks off from Volume 11 Number 1 out in January 2010. Here are my sneeky peeky blocks.

OVCA block for blog 1

OVCA block for blog 2

I know I know, not much hey? but I am under strict instuctions. sorry 8-} And it was a little difficult taking a pic of a sneeky peeky as my block sizes aren't that large and I wanted to show something, so they are a tad fuzzy........

This will be a happy, pretty and fun BOM to be involved in so keep an eye out. Better keep one in so you can find the fabric. LOL!

And good things come in three's. I am off down to Tassie again to Evandale this weekend with the GORGEOUS GAIL to share some stitching with all the lovely ladies there. Gail and I have some yummy projects designed so if you are going to be there as I know some of you are, I look forward to a fun weekend girls!! I have my floaties (due to rain, lots of)and thermal undies (penguin country). I found out recently that bubbly Brenda Ryan will be joining us also. I can't wait to see Brenda again. We had a ball up in Townsville last year so this is going to be great 8-)

Now just before I go and finish packing I will leave you with a photo or two of the scrumdiddlyumptious fabrics that I am working with at the moment. I have started my next design called "Wishful Thinking" and I will tell you that it is going to be a quillow and involves a kitty cat. And in true Natalie Ross in Stitches tradition there just has to be Polka Dots. My fave.

The range of fabrics that make up most of the design is called "Spring Magic".

Wishful thinking 1

Wishful thinking polka dots

Hmmmmmmm! what will these all evolve into?????? something quite quirky that's for sure. Best be packing that suitcase for my travels over the Tasman. I will have lots to share with you next post so until then.......................have a great weekend! 8-)

Mystery stitching & some sunshine!

I have been missing in action......again......due to some more mystery stitching for up an coming retreats and magazine projects. Boy have I been swamped with them this year. Not that I am complaining. Not at all but it does make it just a little diffiult to blog. The magazine project that I am involved with is for "Homespun" and I am not sure if I can talk about it until I check first so I will leave that one alone for now.

The retreat project is for JukeJema Quilting Barn. I will be heading off down there in August with Janelle for a fantastic 2 day retreat. Now I know that there are just a few spots left so if you are keen for a spectacular weekend of all things indulgent then pop on over to Kim's blog for all the details.

Here is a sneak peak at part of my project.

IMG_0872

The fabric range is called "Lily Pond" and is to scrumdiddlyumptious for words. The very generous Sarah from Quilt Fabric Delights gave them to me so if you just must have them in your stash them pop on over to Sarah's shop.

There has been some sunshine at Jack's school recently in the form of birdy's. They are called Sun Conures. As you know Jack was given a green cheeked conure at Christmas time from his teacher Maxine. Maxine and her partner breed all types of birds but mainly Conure Parrots, I think. They have a fantastic website that you should check out if your into the feathered variety like we are. Rosedale Aviaries.

The baby sun conures only stayed a short time at the school but I got to see them up close. Here they are.

Baby sun

AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWE!!!!!

Baby sun conure

They look so weird without their clothes on! Hmmm what a scarry thought. LOL

What cha lookin' at????

Upside down in tub

 That's better kids.

Suns on stand

Now they also wear these groovy little vest like jackets called flight suits with a lead attached. It's so you can take them outside and they can't fly away. It's better than clipping their wings. And seeing that they are a South American bird it's not a good idea for them to escape here in Australia. What would they eat?? Check this out it's so cute.

Sun_in_flightsuit1

It's the light yellow coloured piece on his chest. Aren't they the most adorable looking buzzards. The colours are just beautiful.

I shall leave it there for now as I have to rush off to ten pin bowling with Jack. So there's just a little bit of mystery and some sunshine for you. I shall get the info on the magazine project and hopefully can share a bit with you.

So until next time......

The big move! & the winners are....

I know, I was suppose to announce the winners of my giveaway last night but after watching Master Chef which I am so into and some stitching I found that my peepers just would not stay open! Apologies.......8-)

This week has been an exciting week. Last sunday I went down to the Darling Harbour Quilt & Craft fair with my sister Mel just for a day out. We had a great day and caught up with some the crazy girls at the Homespun stand, Claire & Leanne and just opposite Robyen from Country Pickin's at the Corner. This was Robyen's first stand at the show and they had a great time.

Robyen is just kicking of the running of my Blossom Creek BOM so if you are interested in joining in give Robyen a call (02) 9651-7201. There are limited places left and Robyen is using the "Oh Cherry Oh" fabrics just like I have used.

It was great to see Leonie & Deidre from The Quilted Crow in Hobart. It was their first time there as well. The day would not have been complete without having lunch with the gorgeous Sonya from Giggle Buttons. Great to see you girl!! 8-)) Boy we had some laughs...... I can't believe I forgot to take my camera.....DOH!!

Now I didn't purchase much just a little bit of fabric for my retreat project for Kim at JukeJema Quilting Barn in August so I was pleased about that and Mel picked a few Fat quarters and one of the new bag patterns by Bronwyn Hayes. Mels' a bag freak so we had to come home with at least one bag pattern.

After having a great Sunday, the start of this week was the best. As of last Monday I am now officially with Creative Abundance. They will be distributing my patterns from here on and that gives me seeeeeeeeeeeew much more time to design and stitch. I cannot begin to tell you how excited I am about this. Jacques, Nel and the team are so terrific! 8-)

So for all wholesale & Trade enquiries for my patterns just click on the link at the top left hand side.

Now onto MORE exciting news..........we have 6 winners of my giveaway so lets roll the barrell and see who pops out. rolling rolling rolling!!!!

We have..........Khris

.....................Ineke Platvoet

.....................Janelle from Toowoomba

.....................Dawn

Congratualtions Ladies and a HUGE thankyou to all from being apart of my Giveaway.

A Giveaway to brighten your day!

Brrrrrrr! Brrrrrr! Brrrrrrr! My bones have been a shakin' so much this week I think that some of my joints now need tightening. We have been hit with a yucky cold front and the other day it was 9 degree's below zero. YIKES!!!!!

NOT HAPPY JAN!! being the summer bare feet hippy chic that I am, winter can take a hike. That being said, I have been busy sitting at my computer in the warmth of my home typing up the patterns of my two latest designs and more than happy to say that they are both complete!

So there most definitely has to be a...............GIVEAWAY! Pop the corks...for

"Going Bananas" The vine is actually off white and green stripe. It is always so difficult to photograph quilts for your pattern cover and getting the light right. I didn't want my monkeys to look too dark as they are chocolate brown so a bit of lightening to the photo has made the stem look white. But that's ok. Can't have my 3 cheeky boys looking bleak.

Going Bananas photo

And "Cosy Comforts" - Hot water bottle cover and Cosy slippers.

Cosy Comforts NR43 pic

Two projects to keep you warm and cosy! The slippers are so easy to make and feel sooooooooo nice on your feet. With all the funky fabrics out there now you could make a pair for every day of the week.

And why not jazz up the ol' hot water bottle with a pretty cover.

Now this little guy is not too sure whether he wants to share with these two lovely ladies or whether or not they are going to just bump him off his perch and take his seat!!

What do you think?? 8-)

IMG_0793

I have 6 patterns to giveaway so the six winners can choose from these two patterns which one they would like. Just leave a comment to be in the giveaway and I will announce the 6 winners next Friday evening. Good luck everybody.

I am going to dash as I have a big hot bubble bath waiting for me and I need to go and slide into it! Have a great weekend where ever you may be or whatever you may be doing!!

Until next time.......

Going Bananas!!

Where has the time gone??? I have just returned from the Sydney trade show and after having a couple of days off to re-energise I am back into it.

I had a great time there catching up with friends and customers as well as making new ones as well. I was lucky enough to have my dear friends Liz and David Stanway from Teddlywinks as my neighbours. I was there by myself this time so Liz and David were a great help watching my stand so I could have a break.

Me Liz and David

This time I decided to take just my new things as well as a few fave's to the show. Here's how my stand turned out.

IMG_0738

IMG_0739

It was like a cosy little room. I finished my 2 new designs just in time and I am madly getting the patterns typed up for my orders. Here is the finished quilt to the little sneak peeks I have been showing and it is appropriately named "Going Bananas" Just like me 8-)

This one is for the boys although you could easily make this for a girl in all the gorgeous funky fabrics that are available right now.

Going Bananas

Cropped going bananas

This was a really fun quilt to make and in the style of my Ladybirds on Patrol quilt, this time with simple squares and wacky monkeys. My sister Mel has 3 little kittens that she opened her door to a few months back so I have named these cheeky guys after her cheeky guys. Louie, Ike and Buster! I did have Howard, Keating and Rudd. LOL but thought my 3 little nephews were much better suited. Hmmmmm! It was a tough decision though. hehehehe For those living overseas Howard & Keating were our last 2 Prime Ministers and Rudd is our current Prime Minister. Got to have a giggle at that hey!!

My other new pattern is called "Cosy Comforts" and consists of a hot water bottle cover and slippers. The slippers can be made from size 5 up to size 12! They are so nice on your feet. Just like hotel slippers. Check these out.

IMG_0740

Cropped cosy comforts 2

The colour is not the best in this photo as I took it at the Trade Show inside. Will take a better pic and show you next time. The stitchery colours are so much brighter and prettier.

I best get busy typing the patterns so I can squeeze a giveaway in this week! Hope you are all enjoying the long weekend if you are having one. 8-))

Until next time

Sweet tooth winners!!

Hi ladies,

Well after the week that I have just had, it is so nice to be able to announce the winners of my "Cupcake Cutie" pattern giveaway!

Something sweet to make me feel better. Since my last post when I said I wasn't feeling so good I hit rock bottom the following night with an asthma attack and a week of feeling so incredibly sick. I am happy to say that today is the first day that I am feeling nearly normal again. My kitchen bench looks like a pharmacy but my energy levels are back up to at least 85%.

It was family to the rescue with my sister Mel's fantastic cooking and my other sister Shell handling the pattern production side of things.

Unfortunately Jack has now come down with the nasty so on goes my nurses hat!!

Now with the trade show starting next wednesday and 2 designs still on the sewing table staring at me, panic is not going to get me!!

I will be stitching my heart out as of tomorrow so I should have something in that department to show you in the next few days. Fingers crossed. I think I will be seeing stars!!

Now for the fun part. We have 3 winners..........................

Have you all been totally decadently indulgent with the delicious recipes that some of you lovely ladies have provided??

And what about the 5 minutes of Sanity mug cake?? Hmm...Hmm...LOL!

The 3 lucky winners are         KAREN C.

                                         JULES

                                 MARY GRACE MCNAMARA

Cupcake Cutie Apron set photo cropped

Congratulations ladies. if you could email me with your snail mail address I shall awaken Postman Pat and get him straight on his bike! ding ding.....

Thanks for all your wonderful comments and let's keep up the good work by supporting the foundation of "The Sweet Tooth"!!   LOL.........

I shall leave it there for now and will be back in a few days with major progress in the sewing department.

So until next time................

Slow going so let's have a GIVEAWAY!

It has been slow going for me lately. Firstly my computer has a little gremlin in it I am sure as it has been sooooooooooooooo slow it has made it nearly impossible for me to get on with my work and my patience has been tried so a post has been difficult. But tonight I have dug deep into my patience jar so I can do my giveaway.

And just to add to the slow go I have been struck down with the dreaded lurgy that happily shows itself this time of year. So UUUUURRRGGGGGHHHHHH! is how I am feeling at the moment. Cough Cough Cough and my pelvic floor muscles can take no more! Not a good look. LOL

It could have picked another time as I madly prepare for the up and coming Sydney Trade Show but not to worry the show must go on and I will conquer my deadlines!! 8-}

So I am so sorry that my promise of a couple of days has turned into 9!

What I have achieved since my last post is my latest project that just needs to be quilted so I have another sneeky peeky for you.

IMG_0712

What a cheeky fellow!!

You may have noticed in the top right hand corner there is a link to "Quit Aid 2009" You can click on this and it will take you to a website that is a very worthy cause. There are 12 designers and 12 shops all involved. The program is this. Each shop has a block from one designer that they supply. Each shop has to make all 12 blocks and then design a quilt layout.

You sign up to do the quilt and get each block from each of the 12 shops and then choose which quilt layout you like and purchase the finishing kit from them. The money raised through running this quilt program goes over to help the ladies in Ethiopia who suffer the extreme condition called "Fistula". It is a very tragic tale for these would be mum's and this is just a very short story. Go to the website and read all about it and don't forget to take your big box of tissues with you! I shall leave it there as there is sooooo much more I could say about this.

Please check it out. I have seen the quilt and it is simply gorgeous.

Another plug it my gorgeous friend Kim from JukeJema Quilting Barn has FINALLY started her blog. Kim has a beautiful shop down on the south coast of NSW at Nowra so pop on over and say GIDDAY! Kim is currently organising her annual stitching retreat so you can get all the details and book yourself in for some fun, stitching and chocolate! I will be teaching there but you can read all about it on her blog.

Now for the long awaited GIVEAWAY! I have 3 "Cupcake Cuties" patterns to giveaway.

Cupcake Cutie Apron set photo cropped

And I have something else to share. Some of you may have already come across this. This puts a new spin on a "Cup" cake. It is a recipe for a "Mug" cake.

2 tablespoons of sugar

2 tablespoons of flour

2 teaspoons of cocoa

1 egg

2 tablespoons of milk

1 tablespoon of oil

3 tablespoons of choc chips (optional)

a small splash of vanilla extract

1 large coffee MUG

Add dry ingredients to mug and mix well. Add the egg and mix thoroughly. Pour in the milk and oil and mix well. Add the choc chips and vanilla extract and mix again.

here's the fun part.

Put your mug into a microwave oven and cook for 3 minutes at 1000 watts (high).

The cake will rise over the top of the mug but do not be alarmed!! It will work out.

Remove from microwave and allow to cool a little and tip out onto a plate.

EAT!!!

This can serve two if you want to share. This is known as the most dangerous cake in the world because we are only 5 mintes away from chocolate cake anytime day or night!

What do you think we should call it??    5 minutes of madness perhaps. Or 5 minutes of Sanity...... LOL

Bon Apetite! 8-)

Just leave a comment on this post to be in the giveaway. If you like, you too can share any yummy, fun, Cupcake or quick easy dessert receipes with us! We never say no to those do we. LOL...................

I will announce the winners next Tuesday evening. Good luck ladies.

Until next time...........

Happy Mothers Day!

Happy Mothers Day ladies. I certainly hope your day is extra special and a Happy Mothers Day to those of you that are a day behind us!

I have had a wonderful day. My morning started with a hot cup of tea with my usual honey and then a hug and a kiss from my boy along with a special gift.

When all headed out for lunch along with my mum, Grandmother, sister (one missing due to illness) and my friend Cathy and her son Michael came along as well. Michael is Jack's best friend as you probably know. I have mentioned him a few times.

I was really touched that Michael wanted to buy me something for Mothers Day as he thinks of me as his second Mum. He spends quite a bit of time at our house so I was holding back the tears with that one. I also received a cute little gift from my furry and feathered friends.......

I took a group shot of my goodies. So the gorgeous little gold thimble came from my Jack for my charm bracelet. xxxxxx to you Jack. The adorable little glass Owl, which I collect came from Michael and my critters gave me a tea bag squeezer which I desperately needed as I am a mad tea drinker complete with tea bag! Thank you my friends.

IMG_0680

Now I have some pics to share with you as a part 2 from my trip to tassie. It is so great to see so many enthusiastic stitchers at these events and some ladies just get a kick out of doing something that little bit extra to make the day a little more fun. These gorgeous ladies decided that they would need their very own mug and mug bags for the occasion and look at these delights that they whipped up.

IMG_0658

Aren't they just the cutest things! There's the partners in crime in the background and there's one missing! Where are you Christine???

IMG_0659

This is the other side of the bags.

The little town where I stayed "Richmond", is an historical town and just like something out of a movie. I took a walk around and while shopping for gifts I took a few pics just to give you an idea of how sweet the town is.

IMG_0646

IMG_0644

And how's this for a small house in a small town! LOL

IMG_0640

IMG_0641

There is more to show but you get the picture, just gorgeous!

And while we are on the subject of sweet here is my latest design, this time a complete peek as promised! I have called it "I see stars" sewing bag made with the deeeeeeeeeelicious fabric range called "Farmers Market" this is a fun and easy project and who wouldn't look hot and hip rockin' up to class with this hangin' off your shoulder!!

I see stars sewing bag

How many times have you all been guilty of stitching until you have seen stars?? My hand is up. So know you can carry all your must have supplies with you on your way to stitch until you see stars. Two generous size pockets on the front and combined stitchery and machining, what more could a mad stitcher ask for. LOL

I see stars birdy stitchery adjusted

I have not had a chance to type the pattern as I am now onto my next lot of designs that I need to have complete for the up and coming Trade show in Sydney early next month. I will however get my ..."BEEP".... into gear and get it done this week.

Also with the release of my latest pattern "Cupcake Cuties" a giveaway is called for. I will organise this for my next post. Promise it won't be too far away. Let's say.......a couple of days!

I shall leave you with a sneeky peeky of my latest design that I am working on. I am doing this one for all the little blokes. They seem to miss out a far bit as we are all into our girlie stuff, so tiny tonka's, this one's for you!

Not much to look see at this stage but just an peek anyway.

IMG_0677

Boys sneek peek

I am halfway through so not too much further to go. I am machine blanket stitching as my thumbs have not been too kind to me lately and I love the challenge of the machine. See there's those stars again..........Machine blanket stitch is not any quicker but is ideal if you are not into hand stitching or your hands are just not up to it. The design still looks just as fabulous and with so many wonderful machines out there, why not give it a chance to show you what it's made of!! 8-)

So until next time......

Back on the BIG Island with a BIG post!!

I have returned to the big Island "Australia" after my whirlwind trip down to Tasmania to teach at the "Autumn Gathering" beautifully organised and hosted by the very funny, beautiful and gorgeous Leonie and Deidre from The Quilted Crow!

I had THE best time there. I was joined by Helen Stubbings and together Helen, myself and the lovely crow girls designed our scrummy projects for the day. 60 ladies came along to join in the fun of stitching, laughing, shopping and with a theme of "Cupcakes" for the day indulged in tasty cupcake feasting.

I stayed at the very cosy Mrs Curries B & B which was built in 1823 and I can't believe I forgot to take a pic of it. It was so warm and friendly there and thankfully there wasn't anyone still living there from the 1820's!! 8-}

It was in a small heritage town called Richmond and if you want to travel then Tassie is the place to go and Richmond is just where you need to stay. Just adorable!

I have heaps of pics to show you but I will split them into a couple of posts. here are some pics of our lovely day of stitching.

IMG_0650

Here's the hall all ready to go and patiently waiting for our guests. The cupcakes came out not long after I took this pic and everyone had a HUGE delicious cupcake in front of them to kick start the morning.

IMG_0652

All the tables had there very own Cupcake stand that the girls could place their cupcake on and I was lucky enough to be given this stand at the end of the day in my favourite RED! It looks fantastic in my kitchen and a BIG thankyou to The Crows for giving it to me! xxx

IMG_0653

The stage was set for the massive spending spree that we all enjoy at these events and the girls had it set up so lovely, how could anyone resist shopping there!

IMG_0656

I took along as many samples asI could fit in my suitcase and the airlines are a bit tight these days with the luggage weight so just a small amount could come down with me. here's my display for the day!

IMG_0655

IMG_0654

It was great to be able to meet a few blogging friends and I managed to get a pic of a few of them so here is Sarah.F, Cathy, Jo from Tas, Fiona and our second Sarah is hiding next to Sarah. F. I had a great day girls and look forward to seeing you at the next gig in July at Evandale. I will post with details about that next time.

I have added this in after my post writing. Sorry girls everytime I try and link your blogs my typepad has a spaz attack so here are the blogs for the gals above. Hopefully this will work.

IMG_0664

Now the day would not be complete without having a couple of mug shots of myself with my working buddies!

IMG_0669

Here's me and Deidre. I must say I am looking a bit worst for wear after a long day. Good Grief!!

IMG_0668

And here's me, helen and Leonie peeking her head through! I was holding the camera to take the shot and it came out pretty darn good if I say so myself. Once again I'm looking a bit worst for wear. LOL! Where did my makeup go??????

I have more to share but I will save that for my next post as I think I have loaded enough for today and typepad was not the fastest in the uploading photo department.

But just before I go, remember the sneeky peeky I showed a few posts ago? Well I have finished that design. I will show the completed version next post but for now here's a bit more.

IMG_0637

Now that's a chunky sneek peek don't you reckon?? Hmmm I wonder.................hehehehehe

Until next time.........

Yummy things & a PARTY!

Firstly I have to sing a HUGE "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" to my dearest boy "JACK". It was his 14th birthday on Friday and we had a great day.

Jack invited his mates to join him in a couple of games of Laser tag, which they all thought was the BOMB!! We then headed back home for pizza, party food and of course Birthday cake! A big fat mud cake which is his favourite.

A slumber party was the icing on the cake and they all had a fantastic time. I on the other hand needed all day yesterday to recover after a lengthy effort to get them to sleep at 2am! So my peepers were a bit worn out....LOL!  8-}

They had the best time and this is how my living room looked!

IMG_0632

The birthday boy took the couch for the camp out and Aunty Mel snuck into the pic at the last minute. Now the gang would not be complete without the main man of the group.......GUS!  You go Gussy!!

IMG_0634

"Don't leave me out"! he loves hanging with the boys and is usually writing zzzzzzz's on the bed when the boys are playing video games.........There is the odd or should I say very often occasion that he gets turfed from the bedroom after writing too many zzzzzzzz's from the other end if you know what I mean. But as Gus would say, when you gotta go you gotta go!!!! Right? LOL.........

This week is a busy one for me. I will be packing up my samples and patterns and of course my winter woollies for my trip down to Hobart, Tasmania for the big retreat at The Quilted Crow.

I am really excited about it as I have never been down to Tassie before and I know that there are a few of you going who visit my blog regularly so I am looking forward to meeting you.

Now the girls have showcased my designs on their blog that I will be teaching on the day so I can show you here as well..........YIPPEE!

If you want to come along check with the crow girls to see if there are any spots left.

The theme for the day is....have a guess!!

Cupcake Cutie Apron set photo cropped

My new design for the day is called "Cupcake Cuties". It has the Apron with the cupcake stitchery, a double oven mitt with the cupcake done in Needleturn accompanied by my little friend "Alfie" and a handy Trivet. I will be showing the ladies how to do needleturn applique on the day and there is also the apron stitchery there as well. I have introduced another critter to my range. "Rastas" the Rat!......He has his stack of Cupcakes and he's not sharing!!

I wonder how far he will get without dropping any!!

IMG_0597

The pattern for "Cupcake Cuties" will be available after the retreat.

Hope to see you there.

Another new design I have been working on is just about complete. I'll share this with you all in a day or so......

So until then.....
